The upgrade for the 20.5in-wide duplex press, which is scheduled to be available early next year, can double the colour printing speed to up to 122m/minute but at a reduced colour density. It is aimed at customers who need a faster printing speed but do not want to upgrade to the T300.
The T200, which was launched in May 2010, is a 61m/minute colour or 120m/minute mono, 502mm-wide (2-up) machine capable of producing 23m of colour or 46m mono pages per month and uses the same thermal inkjet technology as the bigger T300, a 760mm-wide, 120m/minute and 70m page per month machine.
The upgrade is available for both current and new T200 customers and will also be available for Pitney Bowes’ IntelliJet 20 Printing System, which uses HP Inkjet web press technology.
Guy Thompson, EMEA category manager for inkjet products, said: "The T200 was intended to be a compact machine. The upgrade will enable the printer to run at 122m/minute with the trade-off that it will print at a slightly reduced colour density - we have reduced the CMY density but kept the density of the black. Customers now effectively have a choice between full density and reduced density but at a faster speed. For transactional applications and direct mail the end customer is likely to be happy with the result."
"There was demand from some customers who said they liked the footprint but they wanted it to go a bit faster and they didn’t want to go up to the T300, which is a big investment and double the floor space."
