We have a HighWater Platinum 2218 CTP system, which for various reasons has lain unused for three years. Are you able to put us in touch with any engineers who may be able to make it work again? Thanking you in advance.

I’d suggest Marlowe Graphics Services (0870 777 0920), they are experts on the Platinum there, and have taken on all the service and support for what was HighWater. HighWater is now split into two companies: manufacturing wing HighWater Products and HighWater Designs, which sells the Cron range of Chinese prepress kit. As well as being able to service the Platinum device, Marlowe also offers an upgrade package ‘Platinum Green’, that might be of interest. This involves upgrading the laser in the machine so it can work with the latest chemistry-free/low-chemistry plates such as Agfa’s Azura and Fuji’s Pro-V. Hope this helps.
I was wondering if there is a network, website, etc, that we printers can use to alert other printers about fraudulent customers? Any help would be great.
‘Shay’, based in the US
What a topical question, given recent news and last week’s Reader Reaction. Here in the UK we have a company called ICSM, which provides a specialist credit checking and monitoring service for the printing industry. It helps companies avoid bad debt and dodgy customers through a constantly-updated database of information on potential clients. Print companies can submit information about companies or individuals who have left them with bad debts, allowing ICSM to build up a detailed picture of persistent offenders and rate their credit worthiness accordingly. A recent high-profile example involved ICSM working with its clients to provide evidence that led to the conviction of con artist David Gale, who ran up print bills as part of repeated scam. ICSM’s service (01454 322 234) is primarily for the UK although it does extend into the continent. Sounds like you could do with something similar in the US – if anyone knows of such a thing please get in touch.
