28 September will see FSC-certified businesses, FSC members, schools and organisations around the world host a series of events to support, celebrate and raise awareness of responsible forest management.
The initiative, which has been running for around 10 years, aims to celebrate the importance of the world’s forests and the key role the FSC plays in their preservation through responsible forest management.
For more than 20 years, the FSC has worked to take care of forests and the people, plants, and animal species that depend on them. The FSC label gives assurance that wood, paper, and other forest products have been responsibly sourced from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials.
FSC UK communications manager Tallulah Chapman said: “FSC Friday started off in the UK and it has been celebrated internationally, at its height by 30 different countries in the world.
“It is a chance for FSC-certified businesses to really focus on that aspect of their business and promote FSC certification, particularly to their clients and customers.”
She added: “Print allows people not only to ensure environmental and responsible sourcing but also to shout about it as well in the form of labelling or promotion on printed materials themselves.
“FSC Friday can be a good way to focus people back in on that certification and what it allows, whether it be the supplier of FSC-certified products or the print jobs using those products. We’ve seen businesses do partnerships in the local community with schools as well as promotions specifically for their clients that focus on FSC-certified materials.”
The FSC said businesses that want to promote the benefits of being FSC-certified could get involved by holding a staff awareness day, offering customers a discount or promotional offer to encourage them to choose FSC, holding an open day for local businesses or community groups, or adding FSC Friday to their website or social channels.
FSC certificate holders and businesses can contact their regional or national office to receive a range of design resources and materials to promote FSC Friday.
