Fire-hit Merseyside printer aims to bounce back

The owners of S Barber and Co, the Bootle-based printer destroyed by fire have declared it won't be long the business will be "up and running" again.

Paul Barber, joint owner of the 98-year-old business with brother Nigel, told PrintWeek the last weeks had been a incredibly tough time for the firm, which had been left gutted by a fire that spread from neighbouring units.

He said: "The main problem at the moment is we don’t know how long the whole situation will take to sort out. We have a meeting with the insurance company later this week and we will know more then.

"We will be back though because S Barber and Co as a printing company is not finished."

It took fire crews four hours to control the flames after the fire broke out after 4am on 30 July. S Barber and Co was among the worst hit of the businesses that occupy the Lipton Close site, although the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

The family-run firm moved into the site four months ago in order to accommodate a new five-colour Heidelberg press that Barber claimed was "ruined" following the blaze.
