By using greyscale printheads, the machine can deposit different weights of varnish on the sheet.
"That means you can use a single liquid for gloss, matt and silk effects, and you can even get all three finishes on a single sheet," said FFEI solutions manager, inkjet technologies Robert Lugg.
The machine is targeted at the short-run market for both digital and litho produced work and is claimed to be competitive with other spot coating techniques up to 5,000 sheets and super competitive up to 1,000 sheets, because there are none of the set up costs of litho and flexo spot coating.
Fujifilm will sell the product with pricing set at €200,000 (£158,000).
It has attracted a lot of attention at the show despite receiving no pre-show publicity. Lugg said: "I didn't gauge there would be so much interest."
He also added that although aimed at short-run applications, the company would look to support personalised spot varnishing.
The Emblaze is being shown on Fuji's stand Hall 08b/A25.
