The federation's first Planet Friendly Summit, which will tackle current and forthcoming regulations, will take place on 24 June during Fespa 2010 in Munich, Germany.
Marcus Timson, Fespa sales and marketing director, said printers that don't comply with EU environmental legislation risked being closed down or fined, or missing out on lucrative accounts.
"Aside from the high risk associated with non-compliance, there is a very sound business argument for adopting sustainable practices," he said.
Because the environment has slipped down the commercial agenda for some companies as a result of the recession, Timson said the programme would focus on the ways the environment can boost business performance.
"Delegates will take away a clear strategic overview of the drivers for adopting sustainable business practices and leave armed with practical advice on how they can embark on a sustainability programme," he added.
The free, half-day event will include a session hosted by Robert Horne's business development director Steve Lister and will look at what major brands want from printers.
Richard Owers, marketing director of Pureprint Group, will discuss how his "planet friendly" print business is thriving, while Mike Horsten, owner of the Zemt Green Consultancy, will address whether planet friendly printing is profitable.
