Fespa ’16 betters Barcelona show; Awards winners revealed

Fespa Digital 2016 is set to eclipse ‘like-for-like’ Barcelona.

According to Fespa divisional director Roz McGuinness, at the close of day three in Amsterdam yesterday visitor numbers were 30% up against the last time they hosted an event in March – Barcelona in 2012 – which drew in just over 12,000 visitors across its four days. Final numbers will be published next week.

“We’re really pleased with this year’s show, especially with the diversity of the visitors,” said McGuinness.

“Highlights for me have been how well Wrap Masters, the Awards and Printeriors have been received.”

Entries for the 18th annual Fespa Awards were up 45% on last year with the winners revealed at a dinner at Beurs van Berlage on Wednesday night.

Fespa president Yasar Güvenen said: “The Awards honour some of the most creative print service providers, which I hope inspires and motivates our entire Fespa print community.

"The Awards are part of Fespa’s Profit for Purpose, which are focused on four main areas: education – sharing knowledge; connections – creating networking opportunities like tonight; inspiration – promoting best practice; and expansion – in other words helping our associations grow.

“For me the Fespa Awards delivers on all four areas.”

The big winner on the night was textile printer The Look Company in Qatar, crowned ‘Best in Show’. See below for a full run-down of the Awards winners.

Meanwhile, Fespa has revealed that next year’s Global Expo event will return to Hamburg, which hosted Fespa Digital 2011, and will take place from 8-12 May 2017.

McGuinness said she hoped the Hamburg event would eclipse the footprint of the last flagship event, Cologne 2015, which filled 62,500sqm and drew 23,000 visitors.
