European Conference to look at restructuring in the print sector

An EC-funded project looking at how printers can adapt to face future challenges is to end in September with a Brussels-based conference.

The event will feature conclusions from a project by European printing association Intergraf and UNI Europa Graphical, the European trade union federation, which began in December 2011 and involved 200 participants from seven different countries across Europe.

The project aimed to put into action two documents produced by Intergraf and UNI Europa Graphical in 2010, which look at best practice in restructuring.

The two organisations first embarked on the project Socially Responsible Restructuring of Printing Companies in 2010.

They were then given EC funding to complete the follow-up project, called Restructuring and Reorientation of printing companies.

The final conference, which will focus on change, will offer participants the chance to share and compare results while planning for the industry’s future.

There will be case studies from companies who have been through a process of reorganisation will present their experiences. The case studies will cover a number of different countries and deal with the challenges and opportunities presented by the reorganising of a company.

The conference will also explore barriers to change within companies, the impact of digital media on information retention and consumer behaviour.

Intergraf and UNI Europa Graphical's UK partners for the project include the BPIF and Unite.
