eCards Media targets Moonpig share with on-demand greetings cards service

eCards Media has unveiled a new print-on-demand service for personalised greetings cards that aims to take a market share from industry rivals such as Moonpig by retailing cards for a third of the price.

The company has targeted daily print volumes of 10,000 cards following the Christmas period and believes that the attractive price-point will enable it to take on a percentage of the bespoke greetings card audience.

Sam Heaton, managing director of eCards Media, said: "We see no need to charge more than 99p for a personalised greetings card. We’re shaking things up and going head-to-head with Moonpig."

A printed eCard can be customised online using images from webcams, camera-phones or their own collection. According to Heaton, text and pictures are easily changed with the finished product sent out to the user or recipient the same day.

Printing and fulfilment of the company's greeting cards will be carried out by Edenbridge-based Dialogue Solutions.

Each A5 card is printed on to glossy 350gsm stock using its HP Indigo digital colour presses. Images are sent to the company each day at 2pm and sent out via Royal Mail by 3:50pm the same day.

The company had previously made its foray into digital print with its 'Postcards' service. The phone application enabled users to take a picture with their phone camera and use the software to send a printed postcard to the intended recipient.

"Our print quality and dedication to our customers is proven by 'Postcards', which quickly became one of the Apple store’s top downloads," added Heaton.

To promote the new service, the company is rolling our 10,000 free greetings cards on its website www.ecards.co.uk using the code OneFreeCard.
