Deanprint invests 140,000 in Kolbus and CMC spend

Printer and bookbinding company Deanprint has invested 140,000 in a Kolbus DA260 casemaker and CMC LPA50-110 casemaker to increase its turnaround speeds.

The DA260 has had a massive impact on the company's speed of throughput, according to managing director Mike Broome.

He said that set-up times were now down to a few minutes as the machine was suited to short-run digital work, and also coped on longer runs of 100,000 plus.

The Stockport-based business is now able to line the cases by machine, which was previously done by hand.

Broome said: "Having invested wisely over the past few years, we felt the time was right to improve our busy case-making department, moving more of our hand operations on to machinery.

"We feel there is a growing market in medium to short-run casebound work and have now grown our ability to maintain real control over production, quality and lead times right throughout the whole of our printing and finishing operation."

The CMC LPA 50-100 machine can be used for large-format cases and is capable of a maximum open case size 480x1,100mm.

Broome said the £2.8m-turnover business was now one of only a handful of binders able to produce an A3 landscape section-sewn casebound book from start to finish.

The LPA 50-100 can also produce five piece cases, which are used for post lock binders.

Deanprint is a 120 year old company employ that employs 50 staff.
