The new imagePress range couples the technology found in Canon's C7010 VP platform, launched at Ipex last year, with Océ's Prismasync controller front-end.
The flagship model, the C7010 VPS can print up to 70ppm at a resolution of 1,200dpi onto substrates up to 325gsm. The range is complemented by a C6010 VPS, offering output of 60ppm and the C6010S.
Mark Lawn, marketing manager at Canon Europe, said the launch of the new series so soon after the company's acquisition of Océ was testament to the "close integration" of the two manufacturers' R&D departments.
"The message we're trying to get across with this series is that is a high-quality print engine that benefits from an Océ workflow front-end, which offers customers a fully-integrated system," he added.
The Prismasync features open workflow connectivity that is claimed to allow the printers to be seamlessly integrated into industry-standard workflows.
According to Canon, the machines offer an integrated platform featuring a job scheduler and media-based workflow that enables operators to plan jobs around the substrate loaded in the printer at any given time.
The Prisma software operates a task-based workflow that allows pre-press users to focus on document preparation while press minders complete production tasks.
Nick Klitsie, vice-president of business group office and printroom, at Océ, added: "Not only will the new models improve production efficiency, but the flexibility that they offer in terms of media handling, run length and intuitive operation means that they will enable print professionals to expand their service offerings and increase their profitability."
According to David Preskett, European professional print director at Canon Europe, the high quality of the C7010 VPS and the speed of launching it to market "demonstrates the level of cooperation that already exists between Canon and Océ".
"We are better positioned than ever to help our customers make the leap to new areas of business and take advantage of the opportunities available," he added.
Canon expects the machines to be available from May with pricing available on configuration.
