According to the firm, Author’s Choice, which was launched last month, is a result of customer demand and is a natural extension of its Publisher’s Choice offering.
“We’re not professing that this is a new concept, but it’s a new approach because we’ve been printing books for 120 years so we know what we’re doing,” said Biddles customer services director Jeanette Hurworth.
The new offering centres on the ‘Word to Book’ product, which includes text layout, bespoke cover design and printing, with the books delivered to the author or publisher for distribution. Packages start from around £700 for 100 books. In the future, Biddles will introduce ‘Word to Shelf’, which will also include distribution.
Authors can order a minimum of 100 books from 64pp to 800pp in a range of formats, either hardback or paperback, with three paper choices. Orders can be tracked online and the firm will also help clients to arrange an ISBN or complete Nielsen Bookdata forms.
Text pages are printed on the firm’s twin-engined Nipson VaryPress, with plate sections and covers produced on its Xerox iGen3. There’s also the option of printing offset.
