The company invested a Océ CS620 colour production system to handle both its short- and long-run digital work, as well as an Océ VarioPrint 5160 to handle high volume mono work.
The Essex-based business has also installed a second Buhrs enclosing machine to ramp up finishing capacity at the 80-staff printer.
Marc Smith, joint managing director with Jameson Smith at Assembly Direct Mail, said the VarioPrint is in place for large mono work.
As well as taking on more staff, Assembly Direct Mail is eyeing a rapid increase in turnover to around the £2.2m mark from its most recent turnover of £1.4m.
The company also welcomed Colin Robson, who joined as client services executive from Euro Media Solutions, which was closed last week. Other new recruits include former Bridge Communications’ employees Tricia Fordham, Paul Hines and Paul Street.
Smith said: "These are exciting times at Assembly and our business has grown through employing staff who are reliable, hard working and have excellent knowledge within their fields of expertise. We have built a team that is second to none in the industry."
Assembly's investments come off-the-back of a site move in which the print business expanded into a 1,207m2 premises from its previous 186m2 Eastgates residence.
Joerg Engelstaedter, marketing director of production printing at Océ UK, said: "We are delighted to be helping and supporting Assembly Direct Mail, which is an incredible success story in what are extremely challenging market conditions."
