Arctic Paper to help establish water footprint standard

Arctic Paper's Munkedal mill has teamed up with the Swedish Standards Institute (SIS) to establish standards for companies to measure their water footprints.

The paper manufacturer will use its knowledge in order to create a standard that shows water usage and also possible effects of the used water.

The Munkedal mill is situated in a natural environment in Sweden and the company has a long tradition of certified environmental work at the site.

It uses less than three litres of water per kilogram of paper and carries out an advanced purification process before the water is released back into the recycling system.

Garry Colyer, Arctic Paper UK managing director, said: "Customers can be assured that Arctic Paper continues to be focused on the global effects of paper making.

"Our grades are not only accredited with FSC and PEFC, but also produced, without compromise, to their water usage."

The work with the new ISO standard is expected to be completed in two to three years.
