Wrapping yarns

This story about Creative FX carrying out a bit of transformational vehicle wrapping on a Rover Metro brought back, erm, happy memories of my own metallic green variant of said car many moons ago. It also reminded me of something snazzy I saw the other week, while doing some research for PrintWeek's recent Wide-Format Report.

While digging around on the 3M website I came across the group's 'wrap your curves' image gallery showing cars, vans, trucks and more all decorated with various wrapping effects, some printed, some not.

When viewing the different vehicles and designs, details of the vehicle wrapping company responsible for the job appear at the top of the image, complete with phone number and link to their website - the aforementioned Creative FX being one - and it's also possible to search for vehicle wrappers by location, too.

It seemed to me to be a neat way for 3M to show off what its films can do, as the best possible sample is always a real world example, while simultaneously promoting its customers' businesses.

The other interesting thing about the burgeoning vehicle wrapping business is that it's yet another new type of print output that's not necessarily included in the sort of market stats that focus on traditional print products.
