I feel bad for all the employees who lost their jobs when Global MP went into administration last month.
I feel bad for all the creditors owed money.
But I feel really, really bad for the employees of sister company Global MP Mailing, who are still in a state of limbo more than a month later.
Without wishing to sound patronising, these are little people. They aren’t highly paid sales folk on £80k plus commission. And they aren’t (or weren’t) paid the sort of wages that automatically allow a person to save up three months’ outgoings as advised by the powers that be.
It’s disappointing that Global MP’s administrators Baker Tilly weren’t able to incorporate an administration process for the mailing business into their work on Global MP. The money involved would be mere bagatelle in the scope of the fees that will be involved in the administration of the bigger business.
Having spoken to the Insolvency Service about the situation, it seems it takes three months after a company effectively ceases trading for anything to happen - at that point it is possible to apply to Companies House for a company to be struck off the register.
However, even that might not actually help because it is only when a liquidator or administrator is appointed that payments can be made to employees through the National Insurance fund.
Ultimately, this comes down to Kevin. He is responsible for this situation and he should have done the decent, right and proper thing weeks ago.
Unfortunately it is already too late for the people who’ve gone more than two months without wages. I don’t think there’s much chance of writing the words “Dunstall” and “decent” in a sentence any time soon.
