Oh my. What a morning it’s been for a web offset obsessive such as me. The phone has been ringing off the hook. Polestar has confirmed its plans to reinvent its web printing platform, and I’m now assimilating the related information. TWO huge 96pp Goss Sunday 5000 presses. TWO short-grain 64pp models. Oh, and a couple of M600s as well. In terms of potential hourly section output that adds up to A LOT. It’s a great PR coup for the group. And for Goss, although such a shame the news has coincided with its own news about restructuring at its French manufacturing sites. And there might even be some good news in it for Polestar’s competitors, as once this massive re-equipping with new kit and closing down of old kit is complete it’s unlikely to involve lots of additional web offset capacity. Better capacity, yes. But not more.
