After another miserable week of depressing news (cp Andover, MPGi), it gladdened my heart to see a little story that restored some of my faith in humankind.
In case you missed it let me point you in the direction of the story of student Elizabeth Klaiber, whose family has donated more than £15,000 to the St Bride Foundation in recognition of this fantastic resource.
Sometimes it's easy to not fully appreciate things when they're pretty much on your own doorstep. That a family from Canada is so appreciative of one of our national treasures is a wonderful thing.
May I suggest that if you happen to be in the vicinity of St Bride's it's worth popping in to the library. Actually what am I saying, it's worth a trip in its own right. The library's amazing archive contains much information that can inspire and illuminate. Whenever I look through old volumes it always sparks an idea of one sort or another, and with today's febrile trading conditions an hour or so of undisturbed reflection could prove just the trick. And thanks to Elizabeth Klaiber's family Nigel and his team will be able to locate the required book or magazine double-quick.
