The Nozomi C18000 Plus is the same six-colour configuration as the device installed at DS Smith’s Lisbon facility at the tail end of 2020.
The deal was announced at last month’s CCE International Corrugated and Carton Exhibition in Munich, and also marked EFI’s 50th sale of the 1.8m-wide single-pass inkjet.
The Ely site produces corrugated display packaging and is also home to an Impact Centre where customers can explore different packaging and supply chain options.
DS Smith UK Retail Marketing managing director Sarah Bell said: “EFI Nozomi technology has played an important role in helping more CPG and FMCG brands stand out with timely, efficient and effective premium packaging.”
She said that customers would gain “much more versatility, with the ability to quickly and affordably produce high-end, customised displays featuring targeted promotions or designs”, thanks to the Nozomi’s capabilities.
DS Smith said that compared to litho-lamination, the Nozomi offered “the most sustainable option with less waste”, while also delivering increased speed to market and flexibility.
The group said the installation in Portugal had significantly reduced delivery times for customers “while providing near-offset quality in e-commerce packaging, shelf-ready packaging and other applications”.
