EFI announced the deal at the CCE International Corrugated and Carton Exhibition, which is taking place this week in Munich.
Evandro Matteucci, EFI vice president and general manager for its Packaging & Building Materials division, described the sale as “a big milestone”.
“They [DS Smith] are an example of an innovative customer that has leveraged Nozomi’s capabilities to move their business forward.
“This is the second Nozomi DS Smith has acquired, and the exceptional experience they had with their first Nozomi was a key driver in the decision to acquire another. We are delighted to continue partnering with them as they expand their capabilities in sustainable corrugated printing,” he said.
DS Smith installed its first Nozomi, a six-colour C18000 Plus model, at the end of 2020 at its DS Smith Iberia Lisbon facility in Portugal.
At the time of writing, DS Smith had not commented on the configuration of the new Nozomi or where the device will be installed.
The single-pass C18000 Plus handles corrugated boards up to 1.8x3m in size and prints at up to 75 linear metres per minute.
The smaller Nozomi 14000 LED prints at the same speed but with a smaller maximum board size of 1.4x2.4m.
DS Smith has a circular business model and provides a range of sustainable packaging solutions, paper products and recycling services to a worldwide client base. The business had sales of £7.2bn in its most recent financial year.
The CCE show runs from 14-16 March.
