The Netherlands-based papermaker said in a statement that as “a consequence of the fast and significant increases in the market price of pulp”, price increases of 6% to 8% per tonne on its high-speed inkjet, graphical, label and packaging grades, in reels and sheets, will be effective for deliveries from 1 April 2021.
The company said its commercial team will contact customers to provide support in the implementation.
Separately, as of this month CVG has started selling its new sugar beet paper, after two years of development.
The business said the commercialisation of the new product line, called Crown Native, makes it the first company in the world to produce sugar beet paper at an industrial level.
The paper is said to reduce the environmental impact by 16% through the usage of less wood fibres compared to traditional paper.
CVG said the product is also FDA-compliant, approved by the BfR36, and suitable for food packaging, unlike most types of recycled papers that contain print ink residue.
The paper is available in 80 and 90gsm weights and the colour is described as "off white" with visible specks from the sugar beet 'shell'. It is suitable for product packaging as well as shopping bags or promotional print.
Crown Van Gelder has been making paper for more than 120 years. Its product range includes papers for packaging, labels, transactional, publishing and promotional printing. The company has two paper machines and makes around 180,000 tonnes of paper per annum.
